The Team Wheel is based on recognised theories about knowledge sharing, complexity, organisational development, psychological safety, group development phases and group dynamics in multidisciplinary teams. It also builds on a new interpretation of the concept of cultural intelligence, the ability to create sustainable collaboration with people who think and act differently from you - a relational competence that affects results and the bottom line.
Both conscious and unconscious mechanisms influence the interaction that occurs. At the same time, a team is constantly evolving. One thing is the team's maturation and the phases the team goes through together, another is the culture that is developed and challenged every time a task changes, new team members join or someone leaves. All of these elements influence team collaboration, performance and interaction, making the task complex for both individuals and the team as a whole.
